Home Dialysis of America was founded by Jonathan Hazman and Don Waite, former owners of the largest independently owned dialysis chain in the state of Maryland: Porter Dialysis Centers. Mr. Hazman first became familiar with dialysis through the illness of his grandfather in early 1990. When his grandfather began dialysis Mr. Hazman became his caregiver. Appalled at the quality of care his grandfather was receiving Mr. Hazman decided there had to be a better way. In 1997 Mr. Hazman founded the Porter Dialysis Center in White Marsh. Due to the success of that first center Mr. Hazman partnered with Mr. Waite to continue the mission and take that quality of care to other areas of Maryland.
Mr. Hazman has over 16 years of dialysis; managing, operating, and consulting within the dialysis world. Jon’s dialysis career began in 1997 when he founded Porter Dialysis Centers. At 29 years of age with an SBA loan Jon started a 12 station dialysis center. Soon thereafter Jon formed Nephrology Specialty Group, Inc., a management company that developed, owned and operated dialysis clinics within the state of Maryland.
Through Nephrology Specialty Group Jon owned and operated the largest independently owned chain of dialysis centers in the state. During this period Jon was responsible for approximately 125 employees, corporate development, construction, quality of dialysis delivered and physician liaison. In June of 2004 Jon sold Nephrology Specialty Group to Fresenius Medical Care. Jon then worked as a dialysis consultant working with Skilled Nursing Facilities. He successfully took a 6 station unit to 18 stations in less than 12 months and then 3 years later successfully represented that company in the sale of their business.
He was awarded the Young Entrepreneur of the Year award from the SBA of Maryland in 1998, the Outstanding Young Alumni award from Ithaca College in 2000, and the Young Entrepreneur of the Year award from the Jewish Center for Business Development in 2002.
Mr. Hazman is a graduate of Ithaca College (BS). He currently serves as a Board member of the University of Baltimore’s Merrick School of Business, the National Kidney Foundation of Maryland, the Board of Directors of Sinai Hospital and the Lifebridge Health Trust and served 10 years on the National Kidney Foundation of Maryland.
Mr. Waite has over twenty years experience managing, operating, and supervising within the dialysis community. Don began his dialysis career working as an Area Manager for Gambro Healthcare from 1988 through 1998. At that time Gambro was one of the largest dialysis companies in the world. They manufactured all dialysis equipment and supplies as well as owned and operated dialysis clinics throughout the world. During this period Don developed a broad and deep understanding of all dialysis therapies.
In 1998 Don left Gambro to form Nephrology Specialty Group, Inc., a management company that developed, owned and operated dialysis clinics within the state of Maryland. Through Nephrology Specialty Group Don owned and operated a small chain of outpatient clinics. During this period Don was responsible for approximately 125 employees and was ultimately responsible for the quality of dialysis delivered to renal patient community he served.
In June of 2004 Don sold Nephrology Specialty Group to Fresenius Medical Care. In August of 2004 Don joined Dialysis Corporation of America, a NASDAQ listed public company as Chief Financial Officer. Later in 2006 Don assumed the role of Chief Operating Officer. During this period Don maintained oversight and was actively involved in Strategy, Vision and Mission Planning as well as Capital and Team Formation. The departments reporting to Mr. Waite included Human Resources, Finance and Accounting, and Operations. In 2007 Don left DCA to establish a Consulting Company.
Mr. Waite is a Graduate of University of Maryland College Park (BS Finance). He has served on the Board of Directors of Bon Secours Baltimore Health System (2008-2011) where he was a member on the Renal Governing Body Committee, Strategic Planning Committee as well as the Audit and Compliance Committee.
